Zombie Weapon #1: English!

You’ve probably heard of The House of the Dead, an arcade shooter where you gun down zombies, man-eating plants and other sorts of nasties that populate the screen. SEGA ported the game for the PC, but added a twist. Since PC light gun peripherals are nearly non-existent, SEGA replaced it with the keyboard and renamed the game The Typing of the Dead. No, I am not making this up. SEGA even bothered to replace the guns of the protagonists with keyboards.

In the game, words and letters were displayed on your enemies, hanging around them like large name tags; type the words correctly and you’d get one dead zombie. It was both fun and funny, and while the game itself isn’t exactly a must-have title, it provides an experience that any gamer should try at least once.

SEGA is upping the ante on its beloved series with English of the Dead for the Nintendo DS. We’re moving from keyboards to styli, baby. Lock and load!
