Xbox 360 with 60GB Hard Drive Announced by Microsoft
The Microsoft Xbox 360 keynote speech at E3 is happening today, but even before they got to that, the guys from Redmond decided to drop a pretty well-expected bomb on the home console universe. We’ve been hearing rumors about this for some time now, so it’s not like the announcement of the 60GB Xbox 360 came out of left field.
This is American pricing, but given the relative parity between the greenback and the loonie, Canadian prices should be either identical or very close. In any case, the 60GB Xbox 360 will carry a retail price of $349. To shift the lineup along in the right direction, the 20GB model will be pushed to $299, representing a $50 price cut. Strangely, there is no change to the Elite and Arcade versions of the Xbox 360. In this way, the Arcade is only $20 cheaper than the 20GB Xbox 360. Remember, the Xbox 360 Arcade lacks a hard drive altogether.
The 60GB Xbox 360 will start hitting American retailers in early August. At that time, the 20GB will be shoved out the door into gaming oblivion. In this way, if you want to take advantage of $299 price point, you have about a month to do so.
