Virtual Console Gets Golden Axed (Two)

I’m an old school gamer. Growing up, there was nothing more fun that hitting up the local arcade with a roll of quarters, anxious to go button-mashing in Simpsons, Alien vs. Predator, Turtles in Time, and any number of other side-scroller masterpieces. They all played fundamentally the same way, but that was the beauty of it all. If you could play Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, you could play Final Fight.
If you’re nostalgic like I am, then you should be ecstatic to hear that Golden Axe II is now available on the Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console. They’ve ported it over from the Sega Genesis (known in some circles as the Mega Drive), so it’s going to cost you 800 Wii Points to download. The first Golden Axe has been out for a little while now. And yes, you can still ride giant insects, scorpions, and that wingless griffin-looking thing.
The two other key VC releases this week are Sonic 2 (Genesis) and Lode Runner (NES) for 800 and 500 Wii Points, respectively.
