Understanding DLC for Guitar Hero World Tour on Wii

One of the major issues that crippled the Wii versions of Rock Band and Guitar Hero III was the lack of downloadable content. It simply was not possible to expand your track list, even if you were willing to fork out a few dollars at a time to get a new song. You were stuck with the on-disc playlist and that, well, sucked pretty hard.
With the pending arrival of Guitar Hero World Tour, that’s going to change, because you’ll finally be able to grab new songs through the music store. Seeing how the Wii only has 512MB of on-board storage, you may be wondering how that’ll work. Well, we already heard that Nintendo is finally opening up the SD card slot for this purpose and new tracks can be stashed on there. Happy, right?
That’s now the whole picture. As it turns out, DLC on the Wii still requires some of that on-board storage. In order to run songs from your SD card, you’ll need to reserve 200 blocks of memory on your Wii. This acts as a buffer of sorts, sitting in between the SD card and your actual gameplay. Hogging up 200 blocks on a perpetual basis is about the amount of space needed for six NES games, three SNES games, or one N64 game.
