Trailers: Star Ocean: The First Departure

Presenting the teaser trailer for Star Ocean: The First Departure, an enhanced remake of the first Star Ocean for the PSP.

The First Departure will feature an entire overhaul of the original game’s engine, using Star Ocean: The Second Story’s engine instead with similar features, including prerendered backgrounds and 3D battle fields. Production I.G. will provide new artwork and animated cutscenes for the game. New playable characters have been confirmed as well.

Console RPGs are known for having turn-based combat, but Star Ocean: Till the End of Time changed that by having players go at it in real-time. While it was rough around the edges, thanks to the weak AI, it was a welcome change of pace. This trailer reveals very little about the actual gameplay, so we’ll have to wait till we see more in-game video.
