Trailers: Star Ocean 4

You’re looking at the trailer for Star Ocean 4, an upcoming RPG for the Playstation 3. It’s only a trailer, so you won’t be seeing any in-game footage yet.

The game’s Wikipedia entry says that the “battle system will now feature 4 party members, and be more team-oriented”. The last Star Ocean title featured real-time combat with 3 party members, one player-controlled and two who ran on AI. The battle sequences worked like beat-em-ups where button mashing resulted in combos. It was fun and lively, but the behavior of your AI-controlled companions left a lot to be desired. It was as if everything was happening too fast, leaving very little room for the AI to function properly. For example, characters who attempted to heal themselves would do so right in front of the enemy, resulting in interrupted actions or worse. Hopefully, this “team-oriented” thing will be better. I just hope it’s not completely turn-based.
