Trailer: Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope

Here’s a gameplay trailer for the upcoming RPG Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope:

My first exposure with the Star Ocean series was SO3: Till the End of Time. While the story left me scratching my head in the end, the gameplay wasn’t too bad. Sure, it was rough around the edges, but there was plenty to like overall.

Star Ocean 4 will still be an action RPG, but what’s really exciting this time around is a feature that twitch gamers and fighting game fanatics will love: blindside. If you watch and listen the preview, you’ll see that it’s a combat feature that occurs when you time a button press to your opponent’s attacks. In fighting game lingo, that’s a counter mechanic, so hopefully it will work like one when the game comes out. That’s going to push gamers to master the combat system to deal maximum damage. If blindside works like I hope it will, there’s a good chance that you can win fights without even getting hit.

Of course, I could be completely wrong. Either way, Star Ocean 4 will be out this month. We’ll post a review then.
