Tim Schafer Gives Us Some Grim Reading
Tim Schafer has released the design document for Grim Fandango, providing those of us who were fortunate enough to have played the game back then with an inside look on its development process. It’s full of ideas, concepts and other creative elements that ultimately resulted in one of the finest adventure games ever made.
For the unfamiliar, it was released by LucasArts way back in 1998, when point-and-click adventure games were still fashionable. It stars Manny Calavera, a travel agent for the Land of the Dead on an epic quest to score the ultimate commission, unraveling an engrossing tale of corruption along the way.
It’s available for free, but I don’t suggest that you download it if you haven’t played the game yet. Aside from spoilers, this file will ruin some of the game’s humor, which is one of the best things I love about it. If you’ve got the time, give it a read. As a Grim Fandango fan, I highly recommend it.
