THQ announced today that they’ll be releasing another expansion to the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War RTS series. Subtitled Soulstorm, the new expansion is going to be a standalone title, which means that the previous games are not required.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Soulstorm, to give it its full and lengthy title, features “an extensive interplanetary campaign spanning an entire star system” according to THQ and introduces two new races – one of which has been confirmed as the Dark Eldar.

On top of the two new races, air units will also be available. Its latest release, Dark Crusade, gave players a Risk-style campaign mode that involved taking over a planet one region at a time. Soulstorm will take the next step by featuring interplanetary warfare.

Expect a spring 2008 release for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Soulstorm. It’s time to take squad-based tactics to a whole new level.
