The Most Expensive Game Ever = Grand Theft Auto IV

No, we’re talking about the outrageous prices that were attached to Neo Geo cartridges back in the day (remember those things?). Instead, we’re taking a look at the amount of money involved in the development of a video game and early estimates say that Grand Theft Auto IV is taking the cake. Leslie Benzies is very close to the project as the GTA IV producer and he says that the game cost about $100 million to make.

All in all, about 1000 people were involved in the development of this little game that has everyone clamoring. This is just Benzies “hazarding a guess”, but if it does prove to be accurate, it would make GTA IV the most expensive game ever made, according to the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition.

The current record holder is Shemue for the Sega Dreamcast. Shenmue clocked in at a cost of $70 million to develop. We’re not sure how inflation factors into that equation.
