Street Fighter IV: Chun-Li’s Hands Are Massive
You’ve heard about the problem before. Some people, myself included, have issues with the visual style that Capcom is taking with Street Fighter IV. I know that it’s been accused of reusing sprites, particularly in the VS series (X-Men VS SF, Marvel VS Capcom, etc.), so maybe that’s the reason why SFIV’s art direction seems so radical. But I can’t help but get the feeling that things are being overdone. Does Ryu even look vaguely Japanese? Granted, he never looked too Japanese from the beginning, but he carried the cool and calculating persona well and his face art showed it. He doesn’t look like that now.
New SFIV art was revealed recently and it shows us Chun-Li. Before I point out what’s wrong, take a look at her yourself.
While it’s fortunate that her face still looks pretty, her limbs are a different story. The lower part of her thumb looks like she just hit it with a hammer and it’s now swollen without the reddish tinge. Her arm is as thick as a leg, making me wonder what her actual legs look like. I wonder if the art department favors Dhalsim, because if there’s a cast member that would love all the deformity, it would be him.
