Square Enix and Tri-Ace. Final Fantasy and Star Ocean. Two companies, two game franchises. What will happen when they combine? The answer is Infinite Undiscovery.

INFINITE UNDISCOVERY is the newest fantasy RPG developed by tri-Ace Inc. (STAR OCEANĀ®, VALKYRIE PROFILEĀ®) for next-generation hardware. Players will be drawn into a real-time world woven of countless threads where their choices will spin untold discoveries. This title, combining the talents of both Square Enix and tri-Ace, will be an unforgettable experience.

Details regarding the upcoming title are scant, but so far we have this: the combat system will incorporate one element from each of Squeenix’s and Tri-Ace’s games. Enemy encounters will involve in the same place as the exploration environment, which means that there will be no combat zone warp, similar to Final Fantasy XII. Like Star Ocean III, these fights will be in real-time. While it can be argued that FFXII’s combat was done in real-time too, Star Ocean III had a fighting game feel to it. The problem was that the AI behavior was poor. Although it was possible to configure how your allies behaved in combat, the overall implementation left a lot to be desired.

Infinite Undiscovery is set to be released on the Xbox 360.
