Sony Serves The DualShock 3, Pulls Out Sixaxis

Sony’s DUALSHOCK 3 controller for the PS3 will be arriving later this month while the Sixaxis will be getting the axe. What does that mean? Hello rumble!

The controllers will feature all the original technology of their Sixaxis brethren, such as motion-sensing and Bluetooth capabilities, and will carry an MSRP of $54.99. After the current stock of Sixaxis controllers have been sold, no more will be made.

The image on the right is the symbol that will indicate DUALSHOCK 3 compatibility. Some PS3 titles that have already been released will require an update to support the new controller, such as MotorStorm, Resistance and Heavenly Sword (what, no Lair?).

It should be noted that Sony’s legal trouble with Immersion is said to be a factor in removing the rumble feature from the Sixaxis. Now that it’s past the issue, Sony hopes that the return of force feedback will mean a more successful run for PS3 controllers.
