Shigeru Miyamoto = Second Most Influential Person in the World

miyamoto.jpg

According to an ongoing poll on Time Magazine’s website, Shigeru Miyamoto is the second most influential person in the world, sitting behind only Stephen Colbert. This places the Nintendo guru well above Steve Jobs (#8), Nelson Mandela (#21), and yes, even President George W. Bush (#39).

They list Shigeru’s pros and cons as follows:

PRO: Most successful game designer, creator of Super Mario, Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda, whose new platform, the Wii, is currently the top-selling game console.

CON: His perfectionist tendencies often result in games being significantly delayed and, despite the Wii’s gameplay innovation, its graphics are far behind the competition.

Miyamoto has never appeared on a Time Magazine cover nor has he ever made it onto the Time Top 100. It looks like he should have no problem holding on to a top 100 spot; he might even have a chance at taking number one if the entire video game community comes and backs him up. C’mon folks, if you love Mario, Wario, and Metroid, you need to go vote for the Shigmeister.
