Seven Broken Xbox 360s & A New Ratchet & Clank Game

Loyalty can only go so far. That’s the sad realization that Rob Cassima had to face when his seven (yes, seven) Xbox 360s all bit the dust. He has since had his unit replaced, but it still made him “feel like a chump.”

Tina Conley, a spokeswoman for Microsoft, told Takahashi the failure rates are “within the consumer electronics industry average.” Microsoft refused to give exact failure rates.

Wait a minute, did she just turn a loyal customer’s plight into a statistic?

Just to recap hardware faults of the three next-gen systems: the Wii suffered from broken straps during the early stages of its release, endangering televisions everywhere. The Xbox 360 has the Red Ring of Death, symbolic of a unit going the way of the dodo. There have been no reports of broken hardware for the PS3, which can mean that it’s very well-made or that there are simply too few of them around for anything bad to happen to them. I’ll let you decide on that.

The next Ratchet & Clank game will be called Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. This PS3 title has no definite release date but at least it’s scheduled for this year. Click on the video to view a short demo.
