Second Life Movie in the Works?
We’ve seen a lot of movies based on video games. Who can forget the classic Mario movie with possibly the most messed up koopas this world has ever seen? How about Jean-Claude Van Damme as Colonel Guile in Street Fighter? It looks like another video game-based movie is going into the works, but it’s not what you’d expect. The movie, strange as it may sound, will be based on Second Life.
Yes, that quirky virtual world filled with virtual currency, virtual relationships, and virtual real estate could be hitting the silver screen. Gore Verbinski of Pirates of the Caribbean fame has purchased the rights to an article by Alexandra Alter published in the Wall Street Journal in 2007. In that article, she describes a love affair between a married man and his in-game wife.
Romantic comedy? Romantic tragedy? Or just the makings for a really lame movie that even video game geeks can’t enjoy? I’m starting to think it’s the last option.
