Review: Star Ocean: The Last Hope

My first introduction into the Star Ocean series was through the third one, Till the End of Time. I feel a certain attachment to it because it provided the distraction I sorely needed at the time. Because of that, I have watched the previews of The Last Hope with a close eye. Now that the game is out, the reviews are starting to come in. Did it do well?

If you’ve read what I covered before, you’ll know that I was waiting for the reviewer to get to the combat system. Star Ocean 4 is an action RPG, after all, and I’ve already written about my initial excitement with the blindside feature. I waited for a single word that would mention anything wrong with the system and it didn’t come. It looks like the implementation is solid, so apart from the fact that certain enemies can counter it, it looks like it’s a fun mechanic to play around with. The combat system received good marks. That’s enough of a reason for me to get the game already.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope is exclusive to the Xbox 360 and is available now.
