Review: Prototype
Prototype is out. Is it good? Is it playable? Do the controls suck? Does it turn you into a god?
The key thing to remember here is that it succeeds as a sandbox game that has one focus: combat. There is no role-playing, no driving or taxi missions or any of the other stuff that open world titles are known for. There is some inventive platforming as you move around the city, but other than that, expect fighting to be a constant activity.
The review mentions that there is some complexity in the controls because there’s a lot to do. That’s the sort of thing that fighting game and twitch gaming enthusiasts love to hear. The controls are workable for the everyday gamer, but for those who like to time their button presses, there is some reward to be had.
