PS2 Owners Get Massive Discount on NHL Games

I was flipping through the Future Shop flyer today when I discovered something very interesting. As you may know, a couple of new hockey games are scheduled for release next week, just in time for the upcoming NHL season. Looking at the prices for NHL 2K8 (2K Sports) and NHL 08 (EA Sports), the PS2 versions are considerably cheaper than their next-generation counterparts.
As you can see from the shot above, NHL 2K8 for the PlayStation 2 is just $19.99, compared to the $50 asking price for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game. A similar phenomenon can be found with NHL 08: the PS2 version is $29.99, whereas the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are $59.99. Even the $39.99 PC version is more expensive than the PS2 game.
I realize that the PS2 itself is much cheaper than it next-gen PS3 counterpart, but I didn’t realize that the pricing could be that different for the games. It’ll be interesting to see if the graphical difference is worth paying double the price.
