Prince of Persia Played By… Persian Prince?

Movies based on video games have typically been pretty disappointing. The Jean-Claude Van Damme-fueled Street Fighter seriously departed from the canonical storyline and let’s not forget about the disappointment with films like Resident Evil, House of Dead, Bloodrayne. With this in mind, I’m approaching the upcoming Prince of Persia film with some serious hesitation.
But how are things going on the casting front? According to a recent casting survey, it seems like the frontrunner for the title role in Prince of Persia is actually a Persian prince himself! David Zandi isn’t just some rich nobility that wants a piece of the silver screen for the first time, because he is already reasonably established as an actor and a movie executive. He’s actually quite the heavy favorite to take on the role of the Prince of Persia.
Further to his credentials, it turns out that Zandi is also a champion equestrian and he’s trained in both fencing and Roman sword fighting. I don’t know. Somehow I imagine that either Ellen Page or Michael Clarke Duncan would be better suited for the role.
