Play as Mii in Mario Kart Wii

First-party titles for Nintendo’s console have been selling a lot better than their third-party counterparts. Let’s face it. Most Wii owners were probably all over Wii Sports when it first launched, and then we all partook in the action known as Twilight Princess, followed up by Super Mario Galaxy and — most recently — Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The next major first-party release is Mario Kart Wii and it could prove to be the most popular to date.

And now the details are starting to emerge. Here a few that House of Nintendo found:

* Mario Kart Wii – April 10th, 2008 (Japan)

* Bikes in cup mode

* Bikes have special actions like “wheelie”

* 16 remakes and new courses

* Wi-fi 12 players

* Play as Miis

- online league and a global world ranking- local rankings

- channel for online aspect

- send and receive time attack scores online, online ranking for time attack as well

- upload/download Ghosts

The two notes that are the most, er, noteworthy are the fact that you can actually play as your Mii characters — go ahead and pit Barack Obama against Hillary Clinton, if that’s what you want to do — and the WiFi online multiplayer will allow for up to 12 racers. All this news just makes me want the game even more. Now we just have to wait for a North American launch date.
