No Killer Instinct 3 Says Rare

killerinstinct.jpg

I’ve seen my fair share of fighting games in my day, from the original Street Fighter II right up to the current Virtua Fighter 5. They all have a certain special appeal to them, whether it be tossing fireballs across the screen (hadouken!) or ripping skulls (with spines attached) as the ultimate fatality. One series that surprisingly did not spawn all that many sequels was Killer Instinct, an innovative 3D game (for its time) by the team at Rare. This was supposed to demonstrate what the Nintendo 64 — or the Ultra 64 as it was called — was capable of.

Well, if you’re sitting around waiting for the third true incarnation — let’s not include “Gold” in this discussion — then you’re in for some serious disappointment. According to official representatives from Rare they are not working on Killer Instinct 3 in any shape or form. This doesn’t rule out the possibility of another fighting game in the future, but they’ve got nothing brewing right now.

Shame… I was so looking forward to doing another ULTTTTTRRRRRAAAAAAAA combo.
