Nintendo Wii with Hard Drive on Display

When the Nintendo Wii first arrived on the market nearly two years ago, people scoffed at its paltry 512MB of built-in flash memory. Turning over to the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, we saw much larger hard drives that provided plenty of space for game demos, multimedia, game saves, and all sorts of other cool content. Nintendo told us that 512MB would be enough. Well, it doesn’t take much to fill it up with DLC, WiiWare, and Virtual Console titles.

So, how is Nintendo going to overcome this conundrum? We already know that the SD slot is going to be used with the upcoming generation of rhythm games, but that’s not going to cut the mustard either. If you have the opportunity to go to the Nintendo World Store any time soon, you should. They’ve got something pretty stupendous there.

The outlet has a series of hard drive-equipped Nintendo Wiis. Yes, a Wii with a hard drive! The systems come preloaded with around 20 games on them and you simply select them from the menu. I can see how a hard drive can open up a window for pirates, but it also opens a giant door for mainstream gamers as well.
