Nintendo Wii Invades India, China

indiawii.jpg

Even though the Nintendo Wii has been available in North America for almost two years now, it’s a little surprising to hear that the wave-tastic home gaming console is not yet officially available in the two most populated countries on Earth. That’s finally about to change, though, because the Wii is coming to India and China.

An exact date has not yet been announced for China (I guess they’ll have to put up with the Chintendo Vii until then), but precise launch dates have been announced for India. The Nintendo Wii will officially be made available in Indian retail outlets starting on September 30th. That’s the same day that the Nintendo DS will make its official debut there as well. Unfortunately, pricing isn’t desirable. The Wii will retail at INR 19,990 ($445). The DS is better at INR 7,990 ($178), but still more than American/Canadian pricing.

Aren’t the factories closer to India and China? Shouldn’t their cost be lower?
