Nintendo Wii brings stupid to the forefront

There are a lot of stupid people out there, but it seems that the Nintendo Wii has flushed them out for all to see. You’re probably aware of the whole flinging-the-Wiimote-through-the-TV fiasco and how Nintendo is issuing a recall (sort of) of the broken straps (you can order your free replacement Wii Remote straps directly from Nintendo), but leave it up to the geniuses in the video below to test the theory that you don’t need a proper sensor bar to sense the Wii Remote’s actions.

Some time back, someone demonstrated that you can use a couple of candles in lieu of the Wii Sensor Bar. You see, the bar emits a spectrum of infrared light and these candles are said to replicate that. Now, let’s see what happens when you place an open flame next to a large electronic device….

Water to put out a fire right next to an electronic device. Water + electricity… hmm… We’re a doomed species.

Oh, and if you’re wondering about the Wii Remote strap and how sturdy it is, check out the experiment performed by nintendojo, wherein they put its durability to the test. Let’s just say that you need quite a bit of force to snap the strap.
