Nintendo to Announce Wii Hard Drive at E3

There’s not very much to substantiate this rumor other than a random speculation by the IGN editors in a podcast, but the prospects are certainly there and the possibility is well within the realm of, well, possibility. Whereas both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sport some rather beefy hard drives to stash all sorts of goodness, the Nintendo Wii is stuck with just a mere 512MB of flash memory. That might be changing.
As more people download titles from the Virtual Console and as game saves for upcoming Wii titles become a little more substantial, those 512 megs might not cut it. That’s why Nintendo might, just might, announce a hard drive for the Wii at E3. Old school NES games are pretty tiny, but if the VC is going to pick up Neo Geo games, it’s going to need some more storage space.
Let’s hope it’s cheap.
