Nintendo: No New DS Anytime Soon

nonewds.jpg

Rumors have been swirling around the Internet about the impending release of a new Nintendo DS. People have been discussing the possible redesigns and the host of features that may accompany. Unfortunately, it turns out that Nintendo does not have any current plans to develop a new DS and they are absolutely dumbfounded over how the rumors got started in the first place.

When the original rumor found its way onto the interwebs, the response from Nintendo public relations department was the standard “no comment.” This neither confirmed nor denied the rumor, so the ‘net continued to perpetuate the story. Unfortunately, Ninty has now come out with a much firmer respoonse.

We cannot comment on the specifics of what will be announced at E3, but at the very least there won’t be anything like what Mr. Hamamura suggested, so would like to clearly deny this. We’re having a hard time understanding what kind of evidence [Hamamura] had for saying this.

This isn’t to say that a new DS isn’t happening — it’s inevitable — but it does mean that we won’t be getting one at E3. Shucks.
