Nintendo No Longer Supports Nintendo

It’s time to move on. At least, that’s what Nintendo of Japan is saying because they will no longer provide hardware support for the Nintendo Entertainment System (known as the Famicom or “Family Computer” in Japan) as of the end of this month, October 31st. I realize that the system is over 20 years old and most people probably don’t even play with the machine anymore, opting instead to play via the Wii Virtual Console, but… c’mon! For nostalgia value alone, why can’t Ninty keep up the hardware support for our favorite gray box of fun?
Well, they say that getting “the necessary parts for repairs have become increasingly difficult to obtain” and thus, it is no longer viable to offer hardware support. I guess we’re stuck with the old fix of pop the cartridge in, pop it out, blow on its connectors, pop it back in, wiggle it around, and hope for the best.
