Nintendo DSi Has Already Been Hacked

Even though the Nintendo DSi won’t officially be available in Canada until some time next year, it has already been hacked by the flash cartridge community. I guess since the DSi is largely based on the same hardware and architecture as the existing DS Lite, this really shouldn’t be all that surprising.
The Nintendo DS is home to a lot of different flash cartridges and while these are supposed to be used for “homebrew applicatons” and “backup games”, they’re typically used for playing illegally downloaded ROMs and other bad things. They really fall into a legal gray area.
In any case, the first DSi flash cartridge announced is the Acekard 2i. This retains the functionality of earlier models, except there is now support for DSi games as well. While this is quite the milestone, I’m thinking it won’t be long until people figure out how to use the existing SD card slot in the DSi instead.
