Ninja Gaiden 2 Rewards Dismemberment, Still No Multiplayer

Ryu from Ninja Gaiden has got to be one of the most bad-ass characters ever to grace a video game. He’s just bloody awesome and with Ninja Gaiden 2 for the Xbox 360, there’s going to be extra emphasis on the bloody part of the equation. Gamer’s Creed is reporting several tidbits surrounding the new action-adventure game, including the scheduled release date of Spring 2008.

Among the highlights are the inclusion of real world environments. Whereas you’d normally find Ryu hacking and slashing his way around fictional locations, Ninja Gaiden 2 will place the warrior in places like Tokyo, Venice, and New York’s Time Square. Leaked photos depict the Statue of Liberty, for example. It’s also noted that enemies will now have cooperative attacks, so you won’t necessarily be taking them on one at a time.

Even better, you can remove limbs from your enemies and these dismembered body parts actually stay on the screen. Why, you may ask? Well, apparently the developers are including something called “obliteration techniques.”

After removing a limb, press Y, the camera zooms in and Ryu goes apeshit with whatever weapons he’s holding. What exactly happens depends on what weapon you’re using and what part of the body you removed prior.

Sound pretty crazy, eh? There’s also a “rival super ninja” who’s supposed to “look bad ass.” On the downside, there are still no plans for multiplayer.
