New Xbox 360 with Jasper Board Has Built-In Memory

Even though, on the surface, the Microsoft Xbox 360 has been out for three long years already. Along the way, we’ve been able to enjoy such instant classics as Gears of War, Halo 3, and Left 4 Dead. However, the first batch of 360s is not the same as the ones that fill retail shelves today…. and the ones that are set to fill shelves tomorrow are going to be quite different as well.

They’re still in pre-production right now, but the next batch of Xbox 360 home consoles will be loaded with a whole new “Jasper” motherboard. These consoles will feature the smaller 65nm chipset, a smaller power and more efficient 150W power supply, and one other notable tidbit that has, up until now, flown under the radar. As it turns out, the Jasper boards have 256MB of internal memory.

This would, presumably, be enough space to stash the NXE without having to rely on an external memory unit or a hard drive. Depending on what Microsoft chooses to do, this also means that it could be possible to preload some 360s with game demos, XBLA games, and other cool content. By comparison, the current board has a paltry 12MB chip.
