More Dragon Quest Titles For The DS
Square Enix is going to make the Nintendo DS a retro RPG haven, courtesy of the Dragon Quest series.
But word from the latest issue of Shonen Jump shows that Wada are hankering to print their own money, as Square-Enix will release full 3D remakes of Dragon Quest IV, Dragon Quest V and Dragon Quest VI—originally released for the Famicom and Super Famicom—for the Nintendo DS, with dates as yet unspecified.
Dragon Quests IV and V were already remade into 3D and released for the PlayStation and PlayStation 2, respectively. DQ VI never saw a release outside of its native Japan. Regardless of who released what, where and when, these three money making opportunities are going to net Squeenix some serious yen.
It’s going to be pretty good to see RPGs in Nintendo’s handheld again. I’ve been thinking that there’s a drought in that genre lately, which is fine for a while because it gives people time to finish existing games, but waiting too long isn’t good. I’d prefer it if we were getting brand new titles altogether, but this is Dragon Quest. It’s almost guaranteed that it’s going to be good.
