MMO Rates For Non-MMO Titles?

When you talk about subscriptions and other similar payment schemes, you think about MMOs. It’s already a fact of life that if you want to play an online game (the ones that matter anyway), you have to be willing to pay a monthly fee for it. But what if the same thing happened to non-MMOs? Take Two seems to be considering that option for its “triple A” titles. Are you ready to pay to play Grand Theft Auto? Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick had this to say:

“It’s our view that you won’t be able to apply a subscription model to mid-tier titles. The triple A titles that people really want to have that are really must have are in the best position for this business model.”

So if Take Two gets its way, we’ll all be paying a set amount to play GTA. For a game where killin’ and stealin’ are the norm, its publisher certainly seems to be bent on doing a little of the same. Let’s hope not.
