Mario Power Tennis with Wii Controls

Leave it up to Nintendo to regurgitate existing material in a slightly different way so that they can further print even more money than they can handle. We experienced this with the arrival of the Virtual Console, Super Mario 64 DS, and numerous renditions of Tetris. Yes, each iteration brought something a little different, but it’s largely because it’s more of the same that we were always sold immediately on the “new” product.

Such is still the case with the porting over of GameCube “classics” over to the Nintendo Wii. We heard about this plan some time back and now it’s coming to fruition. One of the first GameCube games to head over to the Wii is Mario Power Tennis. As you can imagine, the key addition here is not improvement of graphics but rather the implementation of Wii waggle controls.

Seeing how the Wii version of Mario Power Tennis supports the nunchuk, I’m thinking that you swing your tennis racket just like you would in Wii Sports, but you’ll be able to control the movement of your character using the nunchuk’s analog stick. Yes, you could probably buy a used copy of the NGC Mario Power Tennis for less, but that one won’t let you swing your arms frantically. You know… unless you want to.
