Did you really expect anything else? While Mario Kart Wii may not be quite as stellar as Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it seems that the initial press response to the upcoming cartoon racing game is overwhelmingly positive.

NGamer UK gave the game a solid 88%, saying that while the local multiplayer is lacking and the balloon battle “still sucks”, the online gaming component makes up for it. The game, as a whole, “does stop short of magnificence”. Eurogamer was a little less positive at 80%, saying that they liked the Wii Wheel, the “charming animations”, and the “sugar-rush” boosting, but the “awkward structure” and “compromised battle modes” kick it down a notch.

Rounding out the reviews are Nintendo Power with 90% (“fans should be revved up to get behind the wheel”) and Famitsu with 37/40.
