Mario Kart Gets Text Chat, No Voice

More Mario Kart Wii news is coming down the pipeline. As much as I enjoyed playing online in Mario Kart DS, it was unfortunate that Nintendo didn’t open up some way for me to trash talk communicate with my fellow racers. The people on Xbox Live get to use those cool headsets for their FPS shooter adventures, so why can’t Nintendo fanboys get in on this yakkety function too?

Well, it turns out that Nintendo is going about halfway with this for us. For Mario Kart Wii, they still won’t be allowing any form of voice chat, but they are opening up the ability to communicate with your fellow racers via text chat. Nintendo of Europe confirms that you can “create rooms for friends to join and even text chat while you’re waiting for other racers.” This isn’t quite the same as talking during a race, but I guess we’ll just have to take what Ninty is willing to offer.
