Madden Made So Easy, Even Grandma Can Play

Are you frustrated by the complexity found in so many sports games? Can you not be bothered with setting up plays and actually moving your player around on your own? Apparently, EA Sports has heard your cries, because they have just announced that every one of their games that will be released in the future will come with an option for “Family Play” on the Wii.

Instead of having to use the Wii Remote and a nunchuk, Family Play controls require only a Wii-mote. You don’t actually move your player around and you don’t set up any plays. All you do is flick the Wii Remote around to pass the ball, take a shot, or break a tackle. In this way, Madden, NBA Live, and NHL are broken down to a ridiculously simple level, much like how you play tennis in Wii Sports.

For NBA Live:

Shooting, passing, and stealing is a breeze with NBA Live’s Family Play mode. Forget about setting up complex passing plays or worrying about the technical rules of the game, and focus instead on sinking jumpshots, passing with the flick of the wrist in either direction, or blocking and stealing on defense with either flicks up/down or left/right respectively. Want to drive to the hoop? Just hold the B button and your AI-controlled baller will get the hint.

Purists will, of course, stick to the “traditional” control scheme, but if this means that you can get your girlfriend playing Madden, it might be a major plus.
