Madden 09 Outperforms Madden 08 in Launch Month
I still remember when there was a bitter battle over the money of football gaming enthusiasts. You could pick up NFL Quarterback Club. You could opt for NFL 2K. And then there was the Madden franchise from Electronic Arts. Well, seeing how EA Sports has the exclusive NFL license, you really only have one option for a real football action and EA knows it. They know it so much that sales have hit quite the high.
Official numbers have not yet been released, but EA Sports head honcho Peter Moore says that Madden 09 generated $135.5 million in the month of August, representing a 6 percent increase over sales of Madden 08 during its first month on the market. I wonder if the All-Play thing with the Wii version has anything to do with the increase in sales?
It’s also notable for the industry that Madden 09 generated more revenue than any of the three major movie releases in August: Tropic Thunder ($83.9 million), Pineapple Express ($79.9 million), and Mama Mia! ($56.4 million). Then again, Madden costs like sixty bucks. A movie ticket is ten bucks.
