Mac Computers Getting EA Games Courtesy of Cider

It’s kind of ironic, don’t you think? Apple computers are typically applauded for their multimedia capabilities, but one area that Macs come up seriously short is gaming. They can create websites and edit videos with the best of them, but if you want to go street racing with Need for Speed or fragging with World of Warcraft, you’re largely out of luck (unless you take the Bootcamp route). No longer, owners of glossy white computers, no longer.

Thanks to some help from the people at Transgaming, Electronic Arts will soon be bringing an onslaught of video games to Mac computers. Transgaming is perhaps best known for their Cider portability engine, the solution that brought the wealth of fun to GameTap’s Myst Online: URU Live. This is a huge opportunity for EA, because the gaming side of things on Macs has remained mostly untapped.

The caveat is that these Mac-friendly games from Electronic Arts will only work with Intel-powered Apples. If you’re still rocking a PowerPC from a couple years ago, you’re still SOL.
