Len Wiseman to Direct Gears of War Movie

When the PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii hit the market last November, Microsoft knew that they had to do something to keep the marketplace interested in the Xbox 360. And boy did they come through. Gears of War has won several awards and has been named game of the year for 2006 on countless lists, much to the joy of shooting game lovers around the world.

We’ve known for a while now that a Gears of War movie was in the works, but it’s so early on that there’s no script and no cast to speak of. They are hunting down a director, however, and the latest rumor is that the director’s chair will be filled by Len Wiseman. You might remember him from his work in the moody Underworld movies (werewolves + vampires = awesome). More recently, Wiseman directed Live Free or Die Hard starring Bruce Willis.

Well, Marcus Fenix may not be quite as pretty as Kate Beckinsale, but he’s easily as rugged as John McClane. Hopefully Wiseman manages to maintain the same moody atmosphere found in the Gears of War video game… at least we think he’s a better choice than Uwe Boll.
