LEGO Rock Band in the Works?

My first question: Why? My second question: Why not?

We’ve seen quite a few Lego-based video games in these last few years and while some were a little disappointing, they’ve all been reasonably fun to play. From Lego Star Wars to Lego Batman, they provided an interesting twist on a trusted and beloved franchise. With this in mind, it’s not at all surprising to find another Lego game in the works, but it’s not the standard action-adventure fare that has populated the Lego video game universe to date.

Instead, a “source” is saying that Traveller’s Tales is working on Lego Rock Band for Electronic Arts. As you may expect, EA didn’t provide any official comment on the matter. From a marketing point of view, this could combine two very popular franchises and make for some rather interesting music videos, but I’m thinking that the Lego thing doesn’t really add all that much to the gameplay side of things. Maybe you can hot swap the heads for costume changes.

Earlier rumors pointed toward a second Lego Indiana Jones game or possibly a Lego Harry Potter, so those are still in the cards too for 2009.
