Konami Revolutionizes Rhythm Game Genre

When Guitar Hero first hit the scene a few years ago, I didn’t think that it was anything particularly special. I had been surrounded by Konami’s family of Bemani rhythm games for a long time already, having enjoyed such titles as Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Freaks, and Drummania (I never got into Beatmania or Keyboardmania… those were too crazy for me).

It made us wonder why didn’t Konami localize their music game franchise for the North American audience? The Bemani series had a bunch of J-pop songs and other tracks that most Americans and Canadians wouldn’t know. Well, it seems that they are finally going to cross the Pacific and do their rhythm game thing with an upcoming title called Rock Revolution.

I can just hear it now. Everyone is just going to say that Konami is copying Harmonix, when it was really the other way around. The kicker is that the Rock Revolution drum set is epic. Six pad epic. Woohoo! Look for Rock Revolution to drop on the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and DS.
