Impressions: Mega Man Star Force

Wiki-starforcebox.jpg

  • There are three Mega Man Star Force titles: Dragon, Pegasus and Leo. They are referring to satellites orbiting the planet.
  • You get barraged by a lot of information at the beginning of the game, and you don’t get in a gradual fashion. You’ll learn about BrotherBands, Navis, Transers and other esoteric terms. Honestly, it feels like it’s a little too much.
  • The similarities between Star Force and Battle Network are evident from the beginning. One major difference here is that in Star Force you are Mega Man…sort of. I’m not going to spoil it for you, but this isn’t an operator-and-Navi relationship like in Battle Network.
  • Moving around is done by using the directional buttons, which is again similar to Battle Network. Seriously, is it that hard to use the touch screen for navigating? As if to emphasize this design flaw, the game uses the top DS screen to input your name (yes, that’s the one that doesn’t have a touchscreen). It’s the first time I’ve seen it since I started using the DS. Overall, the navigation controls are disappointingly archaic.

I’ll wrap up the impressions tomorrow. On a positive note, combat is fun, so I’ll dwell on that next time.
