How to Get a Free XBLA Game

You can’t beat the price of free right? Well, there’s some good news and bad news for owners of the Xbox 360. The good news is that you can get a free game from Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA). The bad news is that it’s not exactly free and your selection of “free” games is severely limited.

I’m not exactly sure if this will work for Canadian accounts, as the news comes from an American website, but I’m thinking that it will. If you try and succeed (or fail), feel free to leave a comment below indicating as such.

Between now and January 5, you’ll need to purchase 12 months of Xbox Live Gold directly through Xbox Live. You can’t use those prepaid cards, so you can’t take advantage of any in-store specials or deals. After doing this, you will want to decide which XBLA game you will want for free. Choose from Zuma (shown above), Marble Blast, Sonic the Hedgehog, Assault Heroes, or 3D Ultra Minigolf. Do not buy the game yet, but keep it in mind.

After that, go and download (i.e., buy) a gamer pic of theme related to your game of choice. After doing that, you’ll get the associated game for “free.”
