Guitar Hero Coming to Asia Courtesy of Blizzard
Blizzard clearly knows what they’re doing when it comes to marketing to the people of Korea, seeing how Starcraft and other RTS titles absolutely dominate that marketplace. As such, Activision is seeking the assistance of Blizzard for the Asian launch of Guitar Hero.
I personally find this potential launch to be a little odd, seeing how the original inspiration for Guitar Hero probably came from the Bemani series by Konami. Not everyone knows about these games, but these were the same guys that made Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Freaks, Drum Mania, and countless other rhythm games during the 1990s and early 2000s. They’re still in the arcades, but the playlist is definitely Jpop-centric.
Will Guitar Hero be a success in countries like China and Korea? It’s hard to say, but Korea already has a bunch of rhythm games from Andamiro too. If they localize Guitar Hero to K-pop tastes, they’re effectively doing what Andamiro has already done… except with a guitar. No?
