Goldeneye 007 on Nintendo Wii (Video)

The Nintendo Wii Virtual Console is home to some of the best retro games this planet has ever seen. It is there that you can relive the adventures of the original Super Mario Bros. and do a little classic Neo-Geo fighting action through Samurai Shodown. The one game that has been notably missing from the collection is Goldeneye 007 from the Nintendo 64, a title that many say revolutionized the home console FPS genre.

Although it is not an official release, a homebrewer has managed to port Goldeneye over to the Wii. The video above provides evidence of this. The game isn’t perfectly smooth and there are some frame rate issues (as well as problems with saving), but it’s getting there and it shows that it is absolutely possible to play Goldeneye 007 on the Wii. Presumably, controls can be handled either through a Classic Controller or a GameCube controller.

We probably won’t be seeing an official version of Goldeneye 007 on the Wii Virtual Console any time soon. You’re probably all too familiar with the legal complexities involving Nintendo, Rare, and Microsoft that prevent that from happening.
