Free Online Play on Xbox Live
Normally, you need to fork over the dough to get an Xbox Live Gold membership on your Xbox 360 if you want to enjoy any kind of online gameplay. If you want to play Rock Band 2 online with your friend in Australia, Xbox Live Gold is pretty much the only way to go and it’ll cost you about $60 a year to do so. Well, for the holidays, Microsoft has a treat for you.
While you won’t be able to go online with Gears of War 2 for free, there are a number of Xbox Live Arcade games that have been opened up to provide free online play to Xbox Live Silver members, as well as those with Gold memberships. Dubbed the Friendship is Free promotion, this lets you play a select group of XBLA games online for free until the end of December. Think of it as a gateway drugs.
The games included in this promotion are A Kingdom for Keflings, Aegis Wing, Bomberman Live, Hardwood Hearts, Hardwood Spades, UNO, Small Arms, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. For me, the highlights have to be Bomberman and Street Fighter, but I already have a Gold membership anyhow.
