Fallout 3 To Have 200 Endings

When you talk about multiple endings in gaming, what number do you think of? 2, 3, maybe 12? Fallout 3 is going to raise that figure to the exponential value of 200. Here are excerpts of the interview with OXM:

OXM: Have the number of endings been finalized…..how’s that coming along?

Todd Howard: Being that we are Bethesda…everything gets a bit big. So as of last week we’re over 200 endings. That is not an exaggeration, but it deserves some description. 200 endings…that’s a lot. So originally when we started, we had various iterations of the ending. The ending is kind of cinematic, that’s dynamic based on the things you’ve done.

So we won’t be getting 200 unique endings. The source article indicates that we could be looking at a single closing sequence with over 200 possibilities of how it’s going to turn out. It’s a twist on the multiple endings mechanic that some games, particularly RPGs, have used for years. I only hope that Bethesda will include some kind of counter to keep track of the possibilities.
