Fallout 3 Impressions

First of all, apologies for the two-day absence. I ventured outside of Azeroth & Outland and made my way to a desolate and radiated wasteland. That’s right, folks. I’ve been playing Fallout 3.

Oblivion’s influence on the game is undeniable. You’ll feel it in the interface, you’ll see it in the character creation screen. Is it “Oblivion with guns”? No, it’s not. The game has managed to capture the look and atmosphere that you would expect out of a Fallout title. Plus, the V.A.T.S. combat system is a fun and effective way to fight FPS-style. You can still do battle in real-time, but I don’t recommend it. Believe me, when you’ve had your taste of semi-turn-based combat through V.A.T.S., you won’t be looking back.

I’m not through with the game yet, but if there’s one thing that I don’t like from the start then it’s the inventory system. It’s clearly built with consoles in mind, so expect it to be clunky and inconvenient. Other than that, Fallout 3 is a great experience so far. I hope to find even better adventures as I move forward. If there’s anything noteworthy to say, I’ll be sure to post it.
