E3 2008: Fallout 3 Gameplay Footage

Finally! What you’re looking at is gameplay footage of Fallout 3, presented at E3.

It looks like combat will be a combination of real-time shooting and, well, it’s not exactly turn-based gameplay, but you can pause to take the time to aim. That’s the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System in action for you. Using it also causes the camera to shift to a more cinematic perspective, allowing you to view the chaos from a different angle.

It’s a good thing to see that Bethesda retained a lot of Fallout’s distinct elements, such as the PIPBoy and the traits, which are bonuses that you can choose when you create your character. They usually come with their own disadvantages though, so I really like how the designers retained the Bloody Mess trait since it was the only one that didn’t have a downside. What kind of bonus did it provide? It allowed you to see deaths in the most horrific ways possible, which became comedic in a macabre sort of way as you played the game.

Look forward to seeing Fallout 3 this fall.
